Heritage Park Master Plan
-
Belton TX
Upon the City of Belton purchasing 85 additional acres to the existing Heritage Park, Covey was asked to master plan this expansion to both blend the existing park to the new expansion and to restore this beautiful land to natural park space. This new expansion, once a golf course, holds vast open spaces that cater to a large need for the City. With great water access and character along the Leon River, a pecan grove, and numerous large oaks and sweeping vistas, this land offered unique opportunities for the region.
This master plan took form through the direction of public input, the Parks Master Plan, the City of Belton Parks Board, and City staff. The master plan sought to provide additional athletic fields and relief parking, while also capitalizing on the ample open space to provide flexible recreation fields that can encompass a wide variety of uses and user groups, creating equitable opportunity for recreation for Belton and surrounding communities. Two river access points, including a fishing dock, were also provided, in addition to a blended trail network allowing for uses such as a 1-mile paved exercise loop down mowed lawn connecting informal open spaces.
