Georgetown City Center Master Plan
Temple, TX
Georgetown City Center is part of a Master Planning effort to unify multiple City buildings as a distinct and cohesive campus in downtown Georgetown. This campus is home to the award-winning City Library, Planning Department, City Hall, and Municipal Court. A vision was developed through City staff and stakeholder input that emphasized the Historic Light and Water Works building and its prominent smokestack. This building and its smokestack were inspirations for unique art and water features formally aligned within the plaza.
Programming includes a civic plaza filled with local artwork, a flexible open green space with a stage, a food truck area, private breakout spaces for city staff, and a unique children’s play area connected to the library. Integrating alleyways and the renowned MLK Boulevard into pedestrian promenades and plazas were a key point of emphasis in this project. Covey put this vision into action, allowing City leaders to adopt this plan, which will be constructed in multiple phases, with phase one expected to begin in the Summer of 2023.
